The Andean Birder is more than just a birdwatching tours company. It’s a story of how local people can find a livelihood in their passion.
We are a group of birders who were born out of local and community initiatives in environmental education, research, birdwatching promotion, community tourism, and nature conservation.
Our main conviction is:
Tourism should benefit local communities and help protect biodiversity.
We create flexible and customizable birding and nature trips for every nature enthusiast. We believe that high-quality tours can be affordable, and we have been guiding and organizing tours since 2014. As professional guides and keen birders, we know what makes a trip a success.
Our trips are designed with multiple factors in mind, such as the driving times (less driving means more fun), target species, seasonal weather, and any special needs our clients may have.
Our trips are designed to maximize the quality of the experience for both our clients and the local communities we visit. We believe that everyone should benefit from tourism, and we work hard to ensure that our trips are fair and sustainable.
As birders and nature enthusiasts, we have traveled extensively and experienced both the role of the tourist and the guide. This gives us a unique understanding of what makes a great birding experience. We are also locals, so we have the knowledge of the best places to see birds and the relationships with local communities and service providers that make our trips possible.
Johnnier is the main tour leader and manager of The Andean Birder. He is responsible for designing the trips and overseeing the company’s day-to-day operations.
Juan Manuel lives in the Central Andes of Colombia where for years has been working on bird conservation and birdwatching guiding.
